The Event
The Dreams Weekend started as a modest idea of running a Harry Potter themed event on the cobbles in lymington which lend themselves so well as a Diagon Alley. No sooner had the idea been canvassed around a few people and we had started securing the necessary permissions from Warner Brothers to use the Harry Potter brand, one of our brief8™ web design clients introduced us to the owners of the CS Lewis copyright and the senior executives at Walt Disney in America. They in turn gave us permission to use the brand and Narnia was born in Angel Courtyard. Since then the little acorn has grown into a mighty oak and for a first event now not only encompasses the whole town but some mighty sponsors as well.
From very early on we knew that we wanted to run the event for a children's charity and once again a timely introduction to the lovely people at Dreams Come True suddenly brought the whole thing together and gave the event its heart and soul and all of us at LDC a very powerful motive to make this a huge success for all involved.
Our whole approach has been based not only on being able to repeat the event annually in Lymington if it goes well, but our wider gift to the Charity will be not only this website but also a vast amount of knowledge and shelfware which will enable other towns anywhere in the UK or abroad to run similar events for the benefit of their community and of course those children and their families for whom just one happy ray of sunshine makes such a big impact on their lives.
If you run a community organisation and feel that your town would benefit from a Dreams Weekend, we would be very pleased to talk to you after the 8th & 9th of December and let you know what is involved. It does take an awful lot of planning, steely resolve and passion, but we have done a tremendous amount of the initial work and would be pleased to assist the right organisations to stage an event in their town.
